Lothar Spree came to the Tongji University College of Communication & Art in 2003. After more than four decades of professional experience in cinema, television and multi-media productions as author, director and producer, and several academic engagements in North America and Europe, he was entrusted with building the Film and Media Art Department of this newly founded College for Media Education at Tongji University.

 

Aside from producing about a hundred highly awarded television programs for German television channels, arte, ORF, DRS, RAI etc., he founded and restructured a number of film schools and film departments on several continents (1961-1968 Hochschule fuer Gestaltung Ulm, 1968-1971 University Waterloo Ontario Canada, 1971-1976 Ontario College of Art Toronto Canada, 1992-1998 Hochschule fuer Gestaltung Karlsruhe, 1994-2003 EIKK European Institute of Cinema Karlsruhe, 2000-2002 Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main, 2001-2007 Scuola Europeen di Cinema Montone Umbria Italy, 2003-2008 College of Communication & Art Tongji University Shanghai).

 

In the opportunity to create on short notice a number of films as part of the XU Guangqi International Conference in Shanghai, Prof. Spree saw a welcomed chance to prove the validity of practical challenges for Chinese students in the field of media art and design.
