Introduction

Welcome to “Computational Biology for Big Data: New Opportunities and Challenges” to be held on 23-24 March 2017 in Shanghai, China.

To embrace the recent explosion of big data in biology and take on the new challenge of storage, sharing and integrative analysis of big data in life science, CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology (PICB) has established a new “Biomed Big Data Center” to explore the exciting opportunity of addressing biological questions through computational data analysis.

In order to facilitate scientific collaboration, PICB will hold a symposium on “Computational Biology for Big Data: New Opportunities and Challenges”. Our speakers include some world renowned scientist in computational biology and genomic science, as well as some young scientists in this exciting field. This symposium aims to provide a forum to discuss the new opportunity and technical challenge of bio-medical big data management, with special attention to the analysis of single cell sequencing data. The symposium will have three sessions, focusing on new techniques for big data analysis (such as deep learning), big-data sharing and database management, and new challenges and opportunities faced with single cell sequencing and integration of multi-omic data.

Hope to see you in the beautiful city of Shanghai this spring!
