Training Course in Electrophysiology in Shanghai in 2007

Aug. 22. til 30

Held by W. Schwarz and J. Rettinger from Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysics (Frankfurt)

Partner Institute of Computational Biology (PICB, Shanghai Institute for Biological Science, CAS Shanghai Research Center for Acupuncture and Meridian (SRCAM);

Fudan University;
Chinese-German Research Foundation for Traditional Chinese Medicine(DCFG-TCM).

Co-organizers: G.H. Ding(SRCAM) and A. Dress(PICB)

The training course is composed of a lecture and a lab-course part.
The lecture part is based on the book ¡°Foundations in Electrophysiology¡± by W. Schwarz and J. Rettinger and includes
1) Theoretical basics
2) Basic methods (the voltage-clamp technique)
3) Detailed basics of the patch-clamp technique
4) Using electrophysiological methods and analysis methods to investigate carrier transport
5) Modern examples of application of electrophysiological methods for investigations of ion channels
6) Modern examples of application of electrophysiological methods for investigations of carrier transporters

In the laboratory-course part the students will exercise the application of the Two-Electrode Voltage Clamp (TEVC) and of the Patch-Clamp on Xenopus oocytes and mammalian cultured cells. Since the number of acceptable participants for the lab course is limited, a pre-selection will be done on the basis of a written examination at the end of the second day of lectures based on the respective subjects. At the end of the lecture part a final examination for certificate will be held.

Pay attention to:

(1) The fee for participation will be 200 RMB; however, students who successfully finish the entire Training Course will get the fee reimbursed;

(2) Application (to see attachment 2) should be sent to Miss Xu Jie (xujie8535@163.com, Tel. 021-50271966-103) before August 7th;

(3) Lectures will be held at SRCAM (199 Guoshoujing Road, Shanghai 201 203) as indicated in the schedule (see attachment 1);

Lab Courses (only one day for each group) will be held at the PICB (320 Yue Yang Road, Shanghai 200 031) and the SRCAM (see attachment 1);

(4) Students, who are from other cities, will have to pay for their board and lodging during their stay in Shanghai by their own.
