Klaus Gerwert 教授在Dortmund马普研究所工作时引入了一种新的时间分辨的FTIR光谱学方法,用于对膜蛋白的分子反应机理的研究。在获得德国科学基金会Heisenberg奖之后,他加入了设在美国加利福尼亚La Jolla的Scripps研究所。在那里,他利用计算生物学方法补充丰富了生物实验方法。1993年他成为波鸿鲁尔大学生物物理全职教授,2002年成为蛋白质中心主任。Klaus Gerwert 教授主要用生物物理和计算生物学相结合的交叉学科研究方法,研究细胞内蛋白质折叠、蛋白质反应机理、蛋白质相互作用及蛋白质网络问题。
