Prepare your data
There are so many softwares for different kinds of biology purpose. They have been developed by different research individuals or groups. Most of them have defined their own data format.
There is a new technology, the Extensible Markup Language (XML), in computer field. It's driving dramatic changes in the way applications are written. XML is self-describing, so the standard is good for us. Why not try to take a look at XML? This software also supports several well-known formats, which are PHYLIP, MEGA, and ARLEQUIN. GenBank is a powerful database, so we provide the support for the GenBank's sequence format. That's good, too, if you copy and paste your sequences line by line. Here is the definition of "One line, one sequence".
It's easy to use when your sequences are in different individual files. Usually, we call them individual sequences. You can use them directly, no sweat. Just go to the next chapter.
