the 2013 ISPR Melvin Calvin-Andrew Benson Award

Dr. Xin-guang Zhu from CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology, Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences was awarded the Melvin Calvin Award from the International Society of Photosynthesis Research (http://www.photosynthesisresearch.org/Default.aspx?pageId=216517). This award to Dr. Zhu is to recognize his work in modeling photosynthesis to develop novel ways of optimizing photosynthetic performance. The Melvin Calvin Award was initiated in 1998 by the Society to honor the contributions of Melvin Calvin and Andrew Benson to photosynthesis research. It is a monetary award made for outstanding investigations into metabolic and cellular aspects of the photosynthetic process to a scientist who is under 40 years of age on January 1st of the year of the presentation, or is less than 10 years from the granting of the doctoral degree. This award is sponsored by Springer Publishing and will be presented to Dr. Zhu during the 16th International Congress of Photosynthesis Research in St. Louis of the US in this Aug. This congress is held once every three years. .
